Cincinnati Reds star Elly De La Cruz made MLB history tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates, becoming the first player ever to record at least 100 stolen bases and 30 home runs in his first two seasons.

De La Cruz swiped second base in the fifth inning and scored on Stephenson’s single for a 7-0 lead, his 65th stolen base this season. The 22-year-old is hitting .260 with 24 homers and 70 RBIs this year after batting .235 with 13 homers, RBIs and 35 steals in 98 games as a rookie.

Mitch Keller’s second-half struggles continued as the Pittsburgh Pirates were defeated 8-3 by the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark on Friday night. The loss ensured the Pirates’ 28th losing season since winning their last division title in 1992 and their sixth sub-.500 season in a row.
