"Emilia Pérez" is certainly the most talked-about Oscar contender of the year, for better and worse. The Spanish-language musical gained significant awards steam when it debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last year and won the Jury Prize alongside a shared Best Actress for its three leading ladies.

This was supposed to be Netflix’s year to finally win best picture. The streaming giant won four Golden Globes and nabbed 13 Oscar nominations for “Emilia Pérez,” a Spanish-language movie musical about a transgender drug lord.

Streaming service Hulu has experienced widespread outages just as the 2025 Oscars began, leaving many customers frustrated and disappointed. Over all 34,000 customers reported experiencing problems cross multiple states, according to DownDetector.com. Users reported frozen and pixelated images.

In its first year livestreaming the Academy Awards, Hulu is facing some technical difficulties. Users reported that the streaming service was crashing as they tried to tune into the Oscars. On X, Hulu’s official technical support account acknowledged that there were problems.

While the Oscars red carpet show streamed just fine on Hulu, leading up to the actual awards show, at 7 p.m. ET, many Hulu users (including this writer) found themselves watching
