Tesla was seemingly slated to score a $400 million contract to produce armored electric vehicles for the State Department, according to reports that broke out yesterday. In reality, no such contract was awarded to the Texas automaker or any other vehicle manufacturer.

The U.S. government has not awarded Tesla a contract to produce “armored” electric cars, a State Department spokesperson said Thursday, clarifying a budget document that appeared to detail the agency’s plan to spend $400 million on vehicles from Elon Musk’s automotive giant.

A State Department spokesperson told Forbes the department has “no current plans” to move forward with the potential contract, which was initiated under the Biden administration.

Tesla’s financial tale, however, has taken a turn since Trump took the oath of office with Tesla stock down over 17% since Jan. 21, as of midday Friday. Just weeks before the inauguration, Tesla reported the first full-year drop in global sales in its history as a public company, according to a report from CNN.

Elon Musk has long railed against the U.S. government, saying numerous investigations and safety programs have stymied Tesla, his electric car company, and its efforts to create fleets of robotaxis and other self-driving automobiles.
