The Houston Astros roster is depleted by injuries and team is leaning on unproven depth. Saturday's 5-4 win over Texas Rangers is latest example.
Zack Short singled home Cam Smith from second base with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to send the Astros to a dramatic 5-4 walk-off win over the Rangers on Saturday night at Daikin Park, snapping a season-long four-game losing streak.
It happened in the fourth inning of the Rangers-Astros game. Yainer Diaz went deep off the Rangers’ Jacob DeGrom to give Houston a 2-1 lead at Daikin Park. Diaz rounded the bases and after he stepped on home plate, he was welcomed back to the dugout with customary forearm smashes from teammates.
Infielder Zack Short was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land to replace Guillorme on the active roster. Guillorme, 30, has played in 12 games as a utility infielder for Houston, going 3-for-20 and playing at second and third base.
