Authorities in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai removed wreaths, candles and bottles of Chinese alcohol, offerings laid at the scene of the deadliest mass killing in the country in a decade.

The driver was apprehended as he tried to flee, local authorities said, adding that an initial investigation suggested he was resentful over a divorce settlement.

Police in China say 35 people were killed and 43 injured after a driver struck a crowd in the city of Zhuhai.
