The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility overnight for an explosoin at a Chinese restaurant in Afghanistan’s capital that killed at least seven people including a Chinese national

An explosion at a restaurant in downtown Kabul on Monday killed at least seven people and wounded about a dozen more, according to police.

Italian NGO EMERGENCY said its surgical center in Kabul received 20 people from the explosion, including seven people who were dead on arrival. Among the wounded are four women and a child.

Against this backdrop, IS-KP has sharpened its rhetoric against China. In claiming the Kabul attack, the group alleged that Beijing is persecuting Uyghur Muslims in China’s Xinjiang region and declared Chinese nationals “legitimate targets” on Afghan soil.
