The Supreme Court majority built by Donald Trump could uphold efforts to expand presidential authority based on the legal principle of unitary executive theory.

Trump prevailed in three major cases last year at the Supreme Court, whose 6-3 conservative majority includes three justices - Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett - he appointed during his first term as president.

Now the question is whether the court rulings are a mere speed bump or an insurmountable roadblock for the Republican president.

While it was once rare for an administration to change its position in cases before the high court, Trump did so in his first term and has signaled he will do it again.
