Alex Ovechkin fired a perfect wrist shot past Calvin Pickard for his first goal of the game, scored from his office on the power play for his second and sailed a shot into an empty net from his own zone to complete the hat trick.

Calvin Pickard became the 181st different goaltender he has scored on, already the most of any player after Ovechkin broke Jaromir Jagr’s mark earlier last month.

Pickard got staked to an early lead before the high octane Capitals roared back in a duel of backup netminders. The 32-year-old will fall to 14-6-0 in 22 starts and has now dropped consecutive decisions after a five-game win streak during the month of January.
