The devotees had begun to gather on the banks of the Sangam from around midnight, while some waited to take the holy dip during the 'Brahma Muhurt'.

Prayagraj: As of Wednesday noon, over one crore pilgrims have taken the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, marking an unprecedented surge of devotees in Maha Kumbh on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.

The water, brought by Director General of Prisons Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha, a 1989-batch IPS officer, was mixed into water tanks at District Jail Kaithu and Modern Central Jail Kanda in Shimla district. The Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva was then performed, with inmates and jail staff participating in bhajan-kirtan (prayer) and other religious rituals.

The Maha Kumbh 2025 culminated on Wednesday (February 26, 2025) but a large number of pilgrims continued to throng the Sangam here, including many who missed taking the holy dip during the 45-day grand event.
