The Transportation Department found a "significant void" under Route 80 east in Wharton, weeks after a second sinkhole closed the highway.

A “significant” void sits underneath the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Exit 34 in Wharton, Morris County, according to findings from an initial New Jersey Department of Transportation study prompted after a possible sinkhole emerged earlier this month.

A new sinkhole has been discovered on I-80 in Wharton, N.J. It's near two others that were found earlier this month and in December.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation says it will be several weeks before the sinkhole that opened up along Interstate 80 in Wharton will be fixed as work to repair that cavity continues.
