Thailand has received 260 human trafficking victims, more than half of them Ethiopians, from Myanmar, its army said on Thursday, in a massive repatriation that comes amid a mounting crackdown on scam centers operating along a porous border.

A three-day human trafficking operation carried out by The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau led to the arrest of 29 subjects for various prostitution and drug-related offenses while additionally identifying four victims of human trafficking.

Hundreds of human trafficking victims who were deceived and forced to work in Myanmar scam centers have been turned over to the Thai military, authorities said Thursday.

Another 260 foreign nationals rescued from online scam syndicates in Myanmar were handed over to authorities in Thailand on Wednesday. This came after Thailand cut power and fuel supplies to five border towns in Myanmar linked to illegal online scamming activities.
