The Yankees and Mets were flying high when they played against each other at Yankee Stadium in mid May. On the Monday off day after that series, the Yankees had a 4.5-game lead in the AL East. The Mets were only 1/2 game behind the Phillies in the NL East at that point.

It didn’t look good, this series with the Yankees. They were battling injuries, pitching was scarce and they often had to use a hodgepodge of relievers to get through the game. Nevertheless, they won two of three.
