The Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia has erupted for the first time in recorded history, in 12000 years. The long-dormant mountain in the Afar region began to send ash sky high on November 24. The eruption caused moderate tremors in areas around Erta Ale and Afdera town. One of the residents, who is also an eyewitness claimed that he heard a loud sound and what he described as a shock wave after the volcano erupted.
