Leading Kenyan nationalist Tom Mboya rallies for African independence in the US in 1959. He was only 28 years old when he gave this speech at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall. The African Freedom Day event linked the African struggle for independence with the American Civil Rights Movement. Mboya led the Kenyan delegation that negotiated independence from Britain in 1963 and later became Minister of Justice.
