I think this whole week I’m going to post a thread each day on stocking in Maine, specifically rainbows. To start, rainbows are not native, but they do have a place in Maine I believe. A lot of our rivers can no longer sustain healthy populations of brook trout and so, a tougher, more temperature resilient fish can occupy the niche availability brook trout once held. Spawning is the first step, and the Dry Mills Fish Hatchery crew is hard at work giving the next generation of Kennebago strain brook trout their start. On spawning day, males were anesthetized and gently squeezed to extract milt (seminal fluid) into plastic bags.
