Matt Cook filmed this barbastelle emerging from a bark-plate... blink and you'll miss it! If your boss is still asking you to do emergence surveys without a zero-lux camera and an infrared light then you should be refusing to cooperate... No buts, no exceptions... | Bat Tree Habitat Key

This 7-minute film of a noctule 'mating roost' is condensed from over two hours of footage. The bat began 'singing' at 75 minutes following sunset and sang sporadically. There was a good deal of social 'chatter' with other bats that also visited the roost but the occupant was still alone when I left. It is interesting to see that the bat remained out of view while singing; a phenomenon that was described to me by bat workers in Holland and Belgium but that I had not witnessed before. Coincidenta

28 brown long-eared bats emerging from a squirrel-hole. The film is edited to show the bats emerging in quick sequence, but the actual emergence took 44 minutes with gaps of up to seven minutes between individual bats. The reason you can't hear the bats is that they didn't echolocate as they left; I had an Anabat Walkabout within 2 m of the entrance and it didn't record a single call... So, the message here is that without the camera, the emergence would have been entirely undetected. | Bat Tree

Batters up! #NHMLA is teaming up with Jill Carpenter and Rachel Blakey of the SoCal Bat Working Group for a bat roost emergence count along the L.A. and San Gabriel rivers! In June, over 400 bats were counted — now, the team needs your help counting any pups (baby bats) that are now able to fly. The data collected will not only inform local bat conservation and support a national effort to document bat roost activity throughout the country, but also contribute to the nationwide NABAT emergence c

We received a call about a roost of bats that had fallen with a chopped down tree, but upon arrival, we discovered it was actually a roost of Feather-tail Gliders! Two adult females and six adorable joeys were safely retrieved. Thanks to our experienced carers who assessed their health and decided to release soon.#flyingfox #endangeredspecies #endangeredanimals #animal #cuteanimal #babybat #tickparalysis #bats #pollination #pollinator #batsanctuary #australia #queensland #farnorthqueensland #Wet

🦇🛹🤙These bat emergence videos are sonar-ly! 🤙🛹🦇 Each summer, thousands of female Cave Myotis form large maternity colonies, right here in Kansas! Biologists at KDWP are using thermal infrared cameras to record nightly emergence events and collect accurate census counts to better understand Cave Myotis populations. Bats provide immense contributions to human health, our economy, and the environment. A recent study in Texas detected 10 insect species in Cave Myotis guano that were considered

This little guy loves munching on a meal worm! Eastern red bats (Lasiurus borealis) are North America's most abundant “tree bats.” They are found wherever there are trees east of the Rocky Mountains from Canada to as far south as central Florida. Eastern red bats roost right out in the foliage of deciduous or sometimes evergreen trees. Despite their bright red color, these bats are actually rather cryptic, looking like dead leaves or pine cones. They are perfectly camouflaged as they hang curled

Bat pups require specific environmental conditions to survive. Maternity roosts are safe places where mama bats gather to birth and raise their pups. Since most bats only birth one pup per year, raising them to maturity is critical for a population’s success. Right now, we’re working to save Brandon Hill Cave, the only known maternity roost for the sword-nosed bat in Honduras, which is for sale with developers encroaching. Ever seen a baby Eastern Red Bat (Lasiurus borealis)? 💕 Your eyes aren't deceiving you... That cinnamon sugar donut IS looking at you! 😁 Unlike the more common Big Brown Bat (Eptesicus fuscus), this species of native microbat is solitary, and does not roost in maternity colonies during pup season. Instead, Eastern Red Bats are single mothers who carry each brood of one of two youngsters on her at all times. She hunts for insects on the wing each night, all while cradling her pups to her chest
